Forth Bridge: A Picture History
On 4 March 1890, the Forth Rail Bridge was formally opened by the Prince of Wales (the future Edward VII), who drove home the final ‘golden’ rivet. In his speech, he remarked: ‘It is highly to the credit of everyone engaged in the operation that a structure so stupendous and so exceptional in its character should have been completed within seven years'. This reissued picture history of the construction of this iconic example of Victorian engineering features stunning archive illustrations and photography throughout.
